A message from our Chair, Sonia Bassey and Artistic Director, Paul Duhaney:
We’re sure that this will come as no surprise at this stage in proceedings, but following guidance from the Government surrounding Covid-19, we are postponing this year’s Africa Oyé Festival until further notice.
Since its inception in 1992 and throughout our 28-year-history, we have never had to completely cancel a festival (even the rainy summer of 2012 could only force us as far as the Baltic Triangle) but obviously this is an unprecedented situation when it comes to public safety and the tough decision had to be made.
All our partners, funders and service suppliers have been notified of this decision; if you are a Trader and have not received information about your deposit, please email firstname.lastname@example.org with your details.
As the news and advice surrounding the virus is being updated on a daily basis, it’s too early to be looking at a new date right now, but as soon as we can confidently announce new plans, we will.
Our current plans are focusing on making sure our staff our safe and able to continue to work flexibly and our future plan will be to ensure when the time is right we can deliver a festival experience that continues to support the industry and the economic recovery of the entertainment sector.
We’re very sorry to anyone who had already planned for their visit to Liverpool and hope you can join us when a semblance of normality is restored.
All of your kind donations and all money generated from merchandise sales this year will still go towards keeping the Africa Oye Festival free when a new date is agreed and towards the continued operation of our charitable organisation.
Thank you for your continued love and support. We will welcome you – the best festival audience in the world – back to Liverpool soon.
